Highlights From Valuing Children Initiative Newsletter December 2018
The Valuing Children Initiative are proud to have collaborated with the Australian Child Rights Taskforce and UNICEF Australia with the publication of the Children’s Report 2018. November was a significant month of all things to do with children starting with the launch of this report.
The Valuing Children Initiative was able to contribute to the Children’s Report by:
- taking part in the Australian Child Rights Taskforce
- sharing findings from the Valuing Children Initiative Benchmark Survey 2016
With the report highlighting that Australian children feel INVISIBLE in our adult world, this really is the time to make a change and all be part of the Valuing Children movement. The full report can be downloaded here.
Ambassadors for Children and Young People
Commissioner Colin Pettit has welcomed five new Ambassadors for Children and Young People. The five new Ambassadors are Ricky Grace, Dr. Robert Issacs AM, Dr Donald Payne, Dawn Wallam, and the Valuing Children Initiative’s Expert Advisor Linda Savage.
Mr Pettit said that each Ambassador was making a significant commitment to supporting WA children and young people and their families.
“Each Ambassador works in their field to increase community awareness and understanding of factors which impact children and young people’s wellbeing,” Mr Pettit said.
“Our new Ambassadors come from a range of backgrounds, professions and networks and will complement our current Ambassadors who aim to help promote awareness of children and young people’s wellbeing to a variety of community sectors.”
Parliamentary Friends of Children
On 1 November 2018, Lisa Baker MLA, Hon Mia Davies MLA, Hon Donna Faragher MLC, Hon Alison Xamon MLA launched the Parliamentary Friends of Children at Parliament House, Perth. The group demonstrates leadership in valuing children in WA, making the difference we require to change attitudes in Australia towards children. With a dedicated group championing the wellbeing of children, and inclusion of children in Parliamentary activity and informing Policy, the Parliamentary Friends of Children will lead the way.
