Building A Better Way Back Together
WACOSS Conference | 22 – 24 February 2021
The WACOSS Finding Ground: Building a better way back together conference was one of the first major opportunities for the community service sector to take stock since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The conference’s purpose was to be the place and space to plot and plan with our peers about how we might do things differently together to make a real difference. A chance to explore not what we want, because we are clear about this, but how we are going to collectively and effectively take action to get there.
The conference provided the opportunity to seize emerging and urgent openings, and find ground from which we build back more resilient and connected communities.
The Valuing Children Initiative was extremely proud and honoured to have the opportunity to not only attend but partake in the panel discussion on children’s wellbeing.
Maddie McLeod our Development Executive and Colin Pettit, Commissioner for Children and Young People WA and Valuing Children Initiative Ambassador, were part of the Child Wellbeing Panel who spoke on “What should we do to halt rising child poverty and developmental vulnerability in WA to build a brighter future”. At the closing presentation: The Road Ahead – Visions From Young People we heard from a range of inspiring and prescient young people inclusive of Bella Burgermeister, one of our Valuing Children Initiative Ambassadors. This panel shared their ideas, accompanied by a single, resonant image of their choice, for how we can best walk together into the future that we need. WATCH VIDEO HERE
Whilst we build a better way back together, it’s important we focus our efforts and decision-making on giving all children a safe, healthy and happy childhood.🧡
