Remember the days when it was a norm to play outisde for hours with your friends/neighbours and families after school or even on the weekends?
Play is so important. Research shows there are many benefits for social, emotional and physical outcomes. We believe it is equally important that children have a say as to how they want play to look like and what we can do better to give them the environment they deserve.
In 2023, the VCI partnered with Play Matters Collective, researchers and childhood experts from Curtin University's School of Education and Murdoch University's Early Childhood Studies to develop a project that aimed to improve play for all members of the community within the city of Perth.
In August 2023 we held a workshop at Government House with 20 young people aged between 4 to 17 years old.
Children expressed many things they would like to see incorporated into playtime. Some of the main themes included wanting an Inclusive environment, Safety, Nature, Colour, Music, Simplicity, Technology, Community and Visibility of Child in the City.
