Children from Attadale Primary School delighted in play-based learning to launch the world's first International Play Day. This inaugural event underscores the vision that child-initiated and self-directed play is a fundamental right of all children and young people, aligning with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
The significance of play in children's development is well-documented. Extensive research confirms that play is crucial for children's ongoing development, learning, and well-being. It supports social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development, particularly in the early years.
Early Childhood Minister Sabine Winton and MLA Lisa O’Malley joined the children at Attadale PS, alongside Sarah McGowan from Natureplay WA, SSTUWA Vice President Natalie Blewett, WA Commissioner for Children and Young People Jacqueline McGowan Jones, Director of Early Years Ana Nieto from Mindaroo Foundation, and Play Matters representative Marcelle Saratsis.
