"It is very difficult to address children's needs without knowing the scope and nature of the problem. Today, the Australian community does not know how many children are exposed to Domestic and Family Violence in any one year, or the make-up of that cohort, and the nature of their experiences. Without an assessment of the cope and nature of children's needs, it's unlikely that we can formulate an effective response"
Those were the words of Adj Professor Tony Pietropiccolo AM, who presented at the Family and Relationships Services Australia conference in May 2025. He explores the harsh reality that too many Australians are familiar with, revealing some of the forms of abuse that victims face and the traumatic impact on children, later in life.
