ANU Experts Visit Perth: Amplifying Young Voices in the Fight to End Child Poverty

January 15, 2025 in Campaigns, Events, Resources

We were honoured to host the exceptional Professor Sharon Bessell and Dr. Cadhla O’Sullivan from The Australian National University's Crawford School of Public Policy during their week-long visit to Perth.

During their visit, Sharon and Cadhla:

  • Conducted a two-day workshop with children experiencing poverty, gathering insights into their lived experiences.
  • Participated in media interviews and promoted their research on child poverty.
  • Shared groundbreaking findings during an evening event at Lawson’s Flat, including the MOR Framework, which highlights how poverty impacts children’s opportunities, relationships, and overall well-being.

Their work underscores the urgent need for a shift in how we address child poverty. Research shows that stable, supportive homes—not just housing—are essential for children to thrive. It also highlights barriers such as insecurity and lack of access to education, which hold children back from reaching their potential.
