WA Kids Deserve Better! The Bold Plan to Fix Early Childhood Education

Valuing Children Initiative (VCI) proudly supports Goodstart’s WA Pre-Election Campaign, advocating for stronger early childhood education and care (ECEC) in Western Australia. 

Goodstart’s recommendations focus on enhancing leadership, expanding preschool access, improving inclusion, and strengthening the ECEC workforce—critical steps to ensuring every child has the best start in life.

• Strengthening Leadership and Governance in ECEC – including establishing an Office of Early Childhood for WA, expanding ECEC on school sites and finalising the WA Planning Commission Childcare Premises Position Statement
• Supporting Access to Two Years of Preschool – addressing fragmentation of preschool care in WA and providing fee-relief to families who need it.
• Improving Inclusion in the Early Years – funding initiatives in WA to address the needs of children currently not accessing ECEC, streamlining WA children’s access to the Federal Inclusion Support Program and strengthening developmental screening and health-focused projects in ECEC.
• Strengthening the ECEC Workforce – expanding current initiatives, especially in regional and underserved communities, and invest in Educator support programs to reduce burnout and enhance wellbeing.

With WA lagging behind other states, this campaign is a vital call for action. We encourage our partners and supporters to explore, share, and champion these key messages to drive positive change for WA children and families.
