Creating a Child-Friendly Airport: Insights from Our Young Advisors #

At the Valuing Children Initiative (VCI), we believe that children’s voices matter in shaping the spaces they use every day. We had the opportunity to put this belief into action by running a Child Advisory Workshop in partnership with Perth Airport.

Why Engage Children in Airport Planning?

Airports are exciting places for children—full of new experiences, anticipation, and sometimes, a little uncertainty. But how often do we ask young travelers about their experiences? How does an airport feel from their perspective?

That’s exactly what we set out to explore with a group of enthusiastic young advisors. From the moment they stepped into Terminal 1 Domestic, their observations, ideas, and questions provided a fresh perspective on the airport experience.

A Team Effort.

This workshop wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Perth Airport, the children and parents who joined us, and our dedicated team at VCI. Your insights are shaping something truly special, and we can’t wait to see the impact of your ideas. You'll have to watch this space!

What’s Next?

The children’s feedback will help inform discussions on how spaces like airports can better serve young travelers. This is just the beginning of an exciting journey, and we look forward to future collaborations where children's voices are heard in planning and design.
