Conversations with Children’s Commissioners
The Valuing Children Initiative welcomed Dr Glenda Kickett to our family of ambassadors during a special event on Friday, November 19.
Longtime supporters of the VCI, Deloitte, graciously hosted our Conversations with Children’s Commissioners event, supplying refreshments and canapés to around 50 guests.
Proceedings began with a heartfelt Welcome to Country by Nyoongar man Nick Abraham, whose storytelling captured the attention of the entire room.
VCI Ambassador Anita Ghose emceed the afternoon, facilitating audience questions and introducing special guest speakers; WA Commissioner for Children and Young People Colin Pettit, and National Children’s Commissioner Anne Hollonds.
Both of our guests speakers provided compelling insights on poverty, youth justice, child protection, mental health, female wellbeing, safety in home and community, cultural security and the impact of Covid-19 on children and their wellbeing.
Director of Centrecare and VCI Founder Tony Pietropiccolo AM had the pleasure of officially welcoming Dr Kickett.
“Glenda is a Whadjuk and Ballardong woman from the Bibbulman Noongar Nation who is highly respected for the significant contribution she has made to the West Australian community, and nationally,” he said.
“Thanks, Glenda, for sharing your knowledge, experience, and passion – we know you will make important contributions to the VCI just as you have in all other areas of your life.”
We look forward to hearing about the important conversations that we know will emerge from this event surrounding the health and wellbeing of Australia’s children and young people.
